American Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was based in Lafayette , Indiana . It manufactured automobiles from 1916 to 1920 that were marketed as American . Occasionally it is also called American Junior , but this included a model name.

The most important model was the junior . With a wheelbase of 178 cm, it was remarkably small. It was primarily intended for children, but has also been labeled as suitable for adults. The open body offered space for two people next to each other. The curb weight was given as 102 kg. A Davis Motor Wheel with a single cylinder engine powered a fifth wheel that was attached to the rear of the vehicle.

During the First World War , there were plans for disabled vehicles and rickshaws .

In 1916 a buckboard called the Red Bug was developed. A Smith Motor Wheel propelled the vehicle. The AO Smith Corporation took over the concept and brought it as Smith Flyer on the market.

In the 1918 model year, the Greyhound was a real passenger car . It had a four-cylinder engine with 10/12 hp . The wheelbase was 254 cm. The roadster offered space for two people. In addition, the Dumore was a light commercial vehicle with a payload of around 450 kg .
