Kent Motors Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Kent Motors Corporation was a car dealership in New York City . The specialty was export to Latin America . The start of the company's own automobile production was planned for 1916. To this end, the Kent Motors Company was founded in Newark , New Jersey , in September 1916 . Founders included FH Clarke, HF Clarke, RJ Cosgrove, Lloyd H. Foster, Wallace A. Hood, FJ Nagel and JH Simpson. A piece of land on the Passaic River in nearby Belleville was purchased for the construction of a factory. Automobile production began in October 1916. The brand name was Kent . From January 1917 shares in the company were sold. Bankruptcy followed in May 1917 . Production ended with that. Some of the management were charged with fraud in July 1917 and convicted in November 1917.

Only one model was on offer. It had a four-cylinder engine from the Continental Motors Company with 40 horsepower . The chassis had a 295 cm wheelbase . There was a choice of bodies as touring cars with five seats and as club roadsters with four seats.
