Middleby Auto Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles . In the literature the name Middleby Automobile Company can be found .

Company history

The company was founded in Reading , Pennsylvania in 1909 . For this purpose, the factory was taken over, in which the Duryea Power Company previously produced vehicles of the Duryea brand. Charles M. Middleby is named by two sources as the founder. Another source states that Joseph Middleby was the driving force. The production of automobiles began. The brand names were Middleby and Reading . Around 400 Middleby were created each year . Production for both brands ended in October 1913.

The first models had an air-cooled four-cylinder engine with 25 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 274 cm . In 1909 the 25 HP was available in three versions. The Model A was a two-seat runabout , the Model B a four-seat Surrey, and the Model C a five-seat touring car .

In 1910 the model names were dropped. The 25 HP was available as a touring car, Toy Tonneau , Runabout, Double Rumble Roadster , Single Rumble Roadster and Surrey.

Between 1911 and 1913 only the 40 HP was in the range. The four-cylinder engine with 40 hp was now water-cooled . The wheelbase was lengthened to 310 cm. A touring car with five seats and a roadster with two seats are mentioned.

Brand name Reading

The only model was the Forty . It had a four-cylinder engine with 49 hp. From 1910 to 1911 the wheelbase was 305 cm. During this time, touring cars and roadsters were used as bodies.

In 1912 the wheelbase was extended to 310 cm. A touring car with front doors completed the available body variants. In 1913 nothing changed in the range.
