Crowther-Duryea Motor Company , previously Crowther Motor Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Henry Crowther founded the Crowther Motor Company in Rochester , New York , in October 1915 . The production of automobiles took place at the Cresson-Morris Company in Philadelphia . The brand name was Crowther .

At the end of 1916, Henry Crowther and Charley E. Duryea merged and renamed the previous company Crowther-Duryea Motor Company . The brand name was now Crowther-Duryea . Production ended in 1917. A total of around 100 vehicles of the double brand were built.

A tire company bought the plant in 1918.

First, the model 5-30 from the Crowther brand appeared . It had a four-cylinder engine with 23 hp . The wheelbase was 279 cm. There was a choice of bodies as open touring cars with four and five seats.

This was followed by the Model 5-35 from the Crowther-Duryea brand . The engine remained unchanged. The chassis was slightly lengthened and now had a 284 cm wheelbase. A two-seat runabout and a five-seat touring car have survived.
