Ward Cyclecar Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ward Butler was active in the automotive industry from the summer of 1913. He made parts in Chicago , Illinois , that buyers could use to make complete vehicles. In addition, a prototype of a complete vehicle was created.

In early 1914, he founded the company in Milwaukee , Wisconsin . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Ward . Ten vehicles had been completed by the summer of 1914. Plans amounted to another 100 vehicles. Obviously, that didn't happen. Production ended in the same year.

There was no connection to the Ward Motor Vehicle Company , which was also selling passenger cars as Ward at the same time .

Butler referred to his vehicles as cycle cars . However, they did not meet the criteria. The chassis had a wheelbase of 254 cm and a track width of 107 cm . The bodies were roadsters with two seats next to each other.

The engines came from Mack Trucks . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a friction gear and belt. Model A and Model A-2 had a two-cylinder engine . A bore of 85.725 mm and a stroke of 99.22 mm resulted in a displacement of 1145 cm³ and an output of 9 hp . In addition, there was the Model B . It had a four-cylinder engine with a bore of 69.85 mm, a stroke of 101.6 mm and a displacement of 1557 cm³. The engine developed 12 hp. The new prices were between 375 and 500 US dollars .
