Plymouth Motor Truck Company was an American manufacturer of motor vehicles .

prehistory

The Commercial Motor Truck Company from Toledo , Ohio manufactured commercial vehicles from 1906 . In November 1906, another plant was opened in Plymouth , Ohio. The bankruptcy began on December 10, 1908 . Bankruptcy was declared on December 31, 1908 .

Company history

Harley Fate ran the JD Fate Company , which later led to the Plymouth Locomotive Works . He bought the remains of the Commercial Motor Truck Company at auction on January 11, 1909. Within ten days he started the new company in Plymouth. Now the production of commercial vehicles began. In addition, some passenger cars were built in 1910 . The brand name was Plymouth . Commercial vehicle production ended in 1914. A total of between 150 and 200 vehicles were built.

In January 1915 the company was dissolved.

There was no connection to the car brand Plymouth from Chrysler .

The trucks were specified with 2 and 3 tons. There were also buses with space for 20 to 24 people and sightseeing vehicles for 20 to 40 people.

The only car model, Model L, was built very stably in the style of commercial vehicles. It had a four cylinder engine from the Wisconsin Motor Manufacturing Company . It had 107.95 mm bore , 127 mm stroke , 4649 cm³ displacement and made 40 hp . The engine power was transferred to the rear axle via one or two chains. The chassis had a wheelbase of 284 cm . The structure was an open touring car with five seats. The original price was 2500 US dollars . A total of three cars were built.
