Demot Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

CH Ritter founded the company in September 1909. The company was based in Detroit , Michigan . George T. Homeier was the factory manager and Guy Hamilton was the chief engineer. In contrast to Ritter, both had already gained experience in automobile construction. They started producing automobiles in 1910. The brand name was initially Demot and from 1910 Demotcar , both short for Detroit Motor Car . In August 1910 it went bankrupt . Production continued under insolvency administration until 1911.

Ritter took over the remainder of the company in December 1911 and reorganized it as the Ritter Automobile Company , based in Madison .

The only model was the 8/10 HP . The two-cylinder engine developed 8 to 10 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 203 cm . The open runabout offered space for two people. The weight including two people was given as around 500 kg. Another source mentions a touring car with a windshield and hood and a roadster , each with two seats.
