Darby Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1909 in St. Louis , Missouri . CT Darby was the designer and namesake, while Harvey D. Dunham and Allen Whittemore were the funders. They started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Darby . The first two vehicles were presented at the Coliseum exhibition in St. Louis from February 15 to 20, 1909 . Production ended in 1910. In total, only a few vehicles were built. One source says the competition from the Ford Model T was too great.

Only Model 20 was in the range . A two-cylinder two - stroke engine with 16 HP power drove the rear axle via a friction gear and chain. The chassis had a wheelbase of 254 cm . There was a choice of a three-seater roadster and a four-seater Surrey .
