Stewart Motor Corporation was an American manufacturer of motor vehicles .

Company history

The company was founded in Buffalo , New York , in 1912 . One source names the people Raymond G. Stewart and Thomas R. Lippard. Mainly it manufactured commercial vehicles. Passenger cars were also produced between 1915 and 1916 . The brand name was Stewart . In 1940 the headquarters were relocated to Indianapolis , Indiana . Production ended in 1941.

The cars had a six-cylinder engine from the Continental Motors Company . 88.9 mm bore and 127 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 4730 cc . Depending on the source, it was given as 29 hp or 44 hp. The water cooler was mounted behind the engine. The front of the vehicles was similar because of the pulled-forward hood of the vehicles from Renault . The chassis had a wheelbase of 323 cm . There was a choice of open touring cars with seven seats and roadsters with three seats. The original price was 1950 US dollars .

The trucks initially had four-cylinder engines from Continental and chain drives. A cab-over-engine followed in 1916 . Its two-cylinder engine was mounted under the seat. The vehicle was specified with 1.5 tons. Six- cylinder engines were added in 1926, a 12-speed gearbox in 1931, and eight-cylinder engines from Lycoming in the 1930s . Some vehicles were streamlined.
