Tight Motor Car Company

Enger Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer based in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1909 to 1917 . The founder was Frank J. Enger.

history

In 1909, Enger began manufacturing high-wheeled automobiles with iron-studded wooden spoke wheels and two-cylinder engines. In the following year, he turned to a more modern car, the Enger 40 , which was equipped with smaller, rubber-tyred wooden spoke wheels and four-cylinder engines.

In 1915 the 6-50 model came out with a six-cylinder engine and the following year the Twin-Six with a V12 engine. A special feature of this engine was the possibility for the driver to switch off a cylinder bank by operating a lever in order to reduce consumption when the full engine power was not required. It is not known how much of the full 55 bhp (40 kW) engine power was left under these circumstances. In any case, this was an early example of cylinder deactivation, which is modern again today .

On January 4, 1917, Enger shot himself after a brief illness. Although he had left his vice president with instructions to continue running the company, his widow filed for bankruptcy to save the company's assets of US $ 330,000. In March 1917, the production of the Enger vehicles was ended.
