Manistee Auto Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Charles Elmendorf founded the company in March 1912. He was President and General Manager while George N. Burr was Secretary and Treasurer. The company was based in Manistee , Michigan . The production of automobiles ran from 1912 to 1913. The brand name was Autoette .

There was no association with the Auto-Ette Company , which used the similar brand name Auto-Ette in 1913 .

The company manufactured one of the first and one of the smallest cycle cars. The single-cylinder engine was water-cooled and developed 4.9 hp . One source gives 400 cm³ displacement . Another source mentions 88.9 mm bore , 101.6 mm stroke and 631 cm³ displacement. The motor drove the rear axle via a friction gear and belt. The wheelbase was 183 cm. The open body offered space for two people next to each other.
