Day Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Thomas W. Day had experience as a dealer for Locomobile . He founded the company in Detroit , Michigan in 1911 . Hugh Jennings was vice president. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Day Utility . After initially good sales figures, the company moved into a larger factory in spring 1912. Then money problems arose which led to the liquidation of the company in August 1913. Plans for a plant in Spokane , Washington State, could no longer be implemented.

The vehicles were designed to meet the needs of farmers. They offered plenty of space for cargo below the seats. All models had four-cylinder engines .

In 1911 the engine produced 21 hp . The wheelbase was 254 cm. Model 1 was a roadster and Model 2 was a touring car .

In 1912 the engine output was increased to 26 hp. The chassis had been lengthened and now had a wheelbase of 279 cm. The only structure was a five-seater touring car.

In 1913 only the Model D was in the range. It had an engine with 33 hp. The wheelbase was 292 cm. The open touring car offered space for seven people.
