Lane Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The brothers George, John M. and William J. Lane built their first steam car in the summer of 1900 , which was followed by 14 more by the end of the year. It was not until 1901 that they founded the company in Poughkeepsie, New York State . The brand name was Lane . Motor vehicle production ended in 1911. A total of 733 vehicles were built.

The company continued to exist for a while after that.

There was no association with the Lane Light Car Manufacturing Company , which used the same brand name in 1915.

Only chain-powered steam cars were on offer. In 1900 there was only No. 1 as a runabout .

In 1901, No. 0 as Light Runabout , No. 1 as runabout, No. 2 as Dos-à-Dos and No. 3 and No. 4 as Surrey to choose from.

In 1902, No. 0 and No. 4 unchanged. No. 2 and No. 3 were runabouts. For No. 1 no structure has been handed down.

From 1903 to 1904 the No. 0 as light runabout, and also No. 1 and No. 2 as runabout and No. 4 as a touring car .

From 1905 to 1906, the range was limited to Style 6 . It was available as a tonneau and runabout.

In 1907 the Model 7 was the small model. The steam engine developed 20 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 246 cm. There was a choice of touring cars and Victoria . The Model 75 had a 30 hp engine and 284 cm wheelbase. Touring cars and runabouts were available.

In 1908 there was Model 8 as a roadster and Model 9 as a touring car with the more powerful engine and No. 10 as runabout and No. 11 as a touring car with the weaker engine. The wheelbases have not survived.

In 1909 there were five models to choose from: Model 10 as a touring car with 257 cm wheelbase and Model 14 as runabout with 249 cm wheelbase, each with the weaker engine; as well as model 12 as a close-coupled with 320 cm wheelbase, model 15 as touring car with 304 cm wheelbase and model 18 as roadster with 284 cm wheelbase, all with the more powerful engine.

In 1910, the range of engines was limited to the 20 hp engine. Model 19 was a runabout with 251 cm wheelbase, Model 20 was a touring car with 262 cm wheelbase, Model 21 was a longer touring car with 318 cm wheelbase, Model 22 was a touring car with 302 cm wheelbase, Model 24 was a runabout with 254 cm wheelbase, Model 25 was a Touring car with 279 cm wheelbase and Model 26 the longest touring car with 318 cm wheelbase.

In 1911, all models except for Model 25 were discontinued . The data corresponded to the previous year.
