Pittsburgh Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania in 1897 . In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Pittsburgh . Production ended in 1899. The Autocar Company is considered the successor.

Other manufacturers of passenger cars of the brand Pittsburgh were Pittsburgh Machine Tool Company and Pittsburgh Motor Car Company .

The first model was a tricycle with two seats in a row. It was powered by a gasoline engine . The curb weight was given as around 54 kg.

In 1898 a four-wheeler was added. A basket seat in the middle of the vehicle offered space for two people. Behind it was a bicycle saddle for the driver. The engine developed 2 hp . It contributed around 25 kg to the curb weight of 73 kg.

In addition, a lightweight Phaeton with space for four people appeared in the same year . His weight was given as 136 kg.

In 1899 the company discontinued the tricycle and sold parts that were still in stock for it.
