Simplex Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ralph Otto Hood manufactured his first vehicle in 1899. It was not until April 1900 that he founded the company in Danvers , Massachusetts . He continued the production of automobiles. The brand name was officially Hood . In addition, the names Electronomic Steamer and Simplex Steamer are passed down. Production ended in 1901.

As far as is known, at least two vehicles were built. Two have been preserved.

Hood made steam cars. They largely corresponded to other steam cars of the time. What was unusual was that the steam engine had four cylinders , while many competitors used two-cylinder engines.

The maximum speed was given as 48 km / h. The original price was 1,000 US dollars .
