Danville Foundry and Machine Company was an American company.
Company history
Robert Holmes founded the company in Danville , Illinois in 1884 . At first he manufactured threshing machines and other agricultural implements. His younger brother Grant joined the company in 1893. In the course of time, first the sale and repair of bicycles and later the sale of automobiles were added. In 1902 the company also produced its own automobiles. The brand name was Holmes . In 1905 the younger brother Sherman also joined the company.
In 1915 the company was taken over by Robert Holmes & Brothers .
There were no links with the other US manufacturers of Holmes automobiles : Holmes , Holmes Motor Vehicle Company, and Holmes Automobile Company .
