Eclipse Machine Division, Bendix Aviation Corporation , previously Steel Pulley and Machine Company , Eclipse Bicycle Company, and Eclipse Manufacturing Company , was an American manufacturer of vehicles .
Company history
Harmon H. Fulton founded the Steel Pulley and Machine Company in Indianapolis , Indiana in 1883 . One plant was in Beaver Falls , Pennsylvania . On August 12, 1895, it moved to Elmira in the US state of New York . By 1896 at the latest it traded as the Eclipse Bicycle Company . From 1890 it manufactured bicycles . In 1896 there were attempts with a horseless carriage that did not go into production. One source, contrary to others, states that on December 12, 1902, the name was changed to Eclipse Machine Company . In 1904 a few automobiles were made that were marketed as Eclipse . For this purpose, the company name was Eclipse Manufacturing Company that year and then again Eclipse Bicycle Company .
In 1928 the company was taken over by Bendix and in 1938 the name was changed to Eclipse Machine Division . In 1944, the company was called Eclipse Machine Division, Bendix Aviation Company and was part of Bendix Aviation Corporation . An advertisement by the company is known from April 14, 1949.
In 1966, due to a reorganization, the company became the Motor Components Division . This company was taken over by Facet Enterprises in 1974 .
There were no affiliations with any of the other Eclipse-branded car manufacturers : Eclipse Automobile Company , Eclipse Machine Company (Ohio) , Krueger Manufacturing Company , Eclipse Machine Company (Michigan), and Eclipse Motor Car Company .
Motor vehicles
The offer included only one model. The vehicles were driven by an air-cooled four-cylinder engine with an output of 20 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 239 cm . The body shape was an open touring car .
