Gaeth Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The German-born Paul Gaeth was a designer in Cleveland , Ohio . He made bicycles and stationary engines. In 1898 a steam car was built , followed by two vehicles with a gasoline engine . In 1900 he had sold the latter two vehicles. In the same year he moved to the People's Automobile Company and stayed there until its bankruptcy in 1902.

In 1902 he founded his own company in Cleveland for vehicle production. The brand name was initially Gaethmobile . By the end of 1903 there were already 25 buyers. When a larger model was introduced in late 1904, the brand name changed to Gaeth . In 1907 and 1908, the vehicles proved themselves on a reliability drive. Production ended in 1910. A total of around 300 vehicles were built.

In November of the same year, the Stuyvesant Motor Car Company took over the company.

vehicles

The Gaethmobile from 1902 to 1904 is described as small and robust. A single cylinder engine with 6 HP power drove the rear axle via a chain. The chassis had a wheelbase of 183 cm . The open runabout offered space for two people. Was steered with a steering lever. Another source suggests that there were also models with a two-cylinder engine and four-seater bodies.

In model year 1905 there was only the Triplex . It had a three-cylinder engine with 25/30 hp that was mounted under the front seat. It drove the rear axle via a planetary gear and a cardan shaft . The body shape was a tonneau with side access.

In 1906 the range consisted of three models with four-cylinder engines . They were mounted in the front of the vehicle and connected to an ordinary gearbox. The cardan drive stayed. In the Model G , the engine was specified with 20/24 hp. The wheelbase was 249 cm. The Model H had an engine with 30/34 hp and 264 cm wheelbase. The top model was the Model J with a 50/54 hp engine. The wheelbase was 277 cm. Superstructures were open touring cars with space for five people, the largest model also for six people.

In 1907 there was only the Type XII . Four cylinder engines were now standard. Here it made 35 hp. Seven-seater touring car bodies were mounted on a chassis with a 284 cm wheelbase.

In 1908 it became the Type XV . The engine was now specified with 35/40 hp. The wheelbase remained unchanged. Touring cars, roadsters and sedans were available.

A further development led to the Type XX in 1909 . The engine now developed 38 hp. The wheelbase was extended to 290 cm. There are touring cars with seven seats, close-coupled touring cars with five seats, tourabouts with four seats and limousines with six seats.

In 1910 the engine was specified with 40/45 hp. The wheelbase was now 305 cm. Superstructures were touring cars, a pony tonneau and a six-seater sedan.
