Detroit Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
William H. Murphy was a wealthy businessman from Detroit , Michigan . He had the opportunity to test-drive with the second beginning in 1899 prototype of Henry Ford . On July 24, 1899, he founded the company in the same city. Frank R. Alderman became the manager and Henry Ford the designer. The aim was a wide range of passenger cars . Ford was still developing, however. The first thing that came about was a delivery truck . The brand name was Detroit . A few cars followed. In January 1901 the company was officially dissolved. A total of around 20 vehicles were built.
Henry Ford then founded the Henry Ford Company . However, only two racing cars were built there . This company later became Cadillac .

Vehicles with the bodies Trap , Phaeton , Touring Cart , Runabout , Stanhope and Surrey were planned . The result is runabouts. One illustration also shows a Surrey. A two-cylinder engine was mounted under the seat and drove the rear axle via a chain.
