Murray Heatley (born November 7, 1948 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints and Indianapolis Racers in the World Hockey Association during his playing career . His sons Dany and Mark are also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Murray Heatley studied at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and played for their ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . He had also played baseball in his youth . During the 1970/71 season he gained his first experience in the Central Hockey League and went on the ice in six games for the Tulsa Oilers . In the following season the winger made his breakthrough in the Central Hockey League and Heatley was committed to the 1972/73 season by the Phoenix Roadrunners from the Western Hockey League . In his only season with the Roadrunners, he finished the regular season with 98 points as the second best scorer in the league. Heatley then went to the Minnesota Fighting Saints in the World Hockey Association . He completed four seasons in the WHA and also went on the ice for the Indianapolis Racers .
During this time he played with Wayne Connelly , Pat Stapleton and Mike Walton . During the 1975/76 season he also had an engagement with the Mohawk Valley Comets from the North American Hockey League . From 1977 to 1980 Heatley played for SC Riessersee in the ice hockey Bundesliga . After completing his debut season, in which he won the German championship with the team , he was elected to the league's All-Star Team. The Canadian later continued his career at ERC Freiburg , with whom he was promoted to the ice hockey Bundesliga in 1981. For the 1985/86 season he accepted an offer from EHC Olten from the National League A and went on the ice as one of three foreigners alongside Roberto Lavoie and Erich Kühnhackl .
