The Phoenix Roadrunners were an American ice hockey franchise of the Western Hockey League based in Phoenix , Arizona .

history

The franchise of Victoria Maple Leafs from the Western Hockey League became the season 1967/68 , relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, and changed its name to Phoenix Roadrunners. The two most successful years in the team's history were the 1972/73 and 1973/74 seasons , in which the team won the Lester Patrick Cup .

Following the 1973/74 season, the WHL was dissolved and the Phoenix Roadrunners also stopped playing. The gap in the city was filled by a franchise of the same name from the World Hockey Association for the 1974/75 season .
