The Calgary Stampeders were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the Western Hockey League based in Calgary , Alberta .

history

The Calgary Stampeders were formed in 1938 as an amateur team. They spent their first four seasons in the Alberta Senior Hockey League . During the Second World War, the team paused before they resumed gaming in the Western Canada Senior Hockey League in 1945, where they stayed for six years. The most successful season in this period was the season 1945/46, when you first won the championship title of the WCSHL and then the Allan Cup , the trophy for the Canadian amateur champion. In the years 1947 and 1950 one won again the championship title of the WCSHL.

For the 1951/52 season, the Stampeders switched to the professional field and joined the Pacific Coast Hockey League . When this was replaced after a year by the Western Hockey League , the Stampeders competed in this for another twelve years. In the 1953/54 season they were able to win the Lester Patrick Cup , the championship title of the WHL. Following the 1962/63 season, the team withdrew from the WHL and thus the professional sector. Most recently, the Stampeders played from 1968 to 1971 in the Alberta Senior Hockey League , in which they had once started, and in the 1971/72 season in the amateur league Prairie Hockey League . In the 1978/79 season also played a team of the same name in the amateur league Western International Hockey League .
