The Edmonton Flyers were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the Western Hockey League based in Edmonton , Alberta .

history

The Edmonton Flyers were formed in 1939 as an amateur team. In their first two seasons, the team took part in the game operations of the Alberta Senior Hockey League . During the Second World War, the team paused with the game operation before they competed in the Western Canada Senior Hockey League from 1945 to 1951 . In 1948, the Flyers first won the championship title of the WCSHL and then the Allan Cup , the trophy for the Canadian amateur champion.

For the 1951/52 season, the team moved to the professional field when it joined the Pacific Coast Hockey League . After the league was replaced by the Western Hockey League for the 1952/53 season , the Flyers also switched to this. During her time in the WHL, the Edmonton Flyers were the farm team of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League . In 1953, 1955 and 1962, the Alberta team won the Lester Patrick Cup , the championship title of the WHL. Following the 1962/63 season , the Edmonton Flyers stopped playing.
