Foster Automobile Manufacturing Company , previously Foster Automobile Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
GG Foster made pianos with his Foster & Company . In 1899 a single steam car was built . In early 1900, he founded the Foster Automobile Company for vehicle production. Paul Densmore joined the company a little later and renamed it the Foster Automobile Manufacturing Company . Foster himself stayed with the company. Vehicle production began in 1901. The brand name was Foster . 165 vehicles were built in the first year. In 1902 there was a patent dispute with the Whitney Steam Motor Wagon Company . Bankruptcy followed in 1903 .
The Artzberger Automobile Company continued to produce a model while maintaining the brand name until 1904, but also used its own brand name.
There was no connection with WO Foster & Company , which a few years later also offered vehicles as Foster .

One model series were steam cars. They had chain drives. A Surrey is recorded for 1901 . In 1902 there were the bodies of light roadsters , touring wagons , Surrey and speed wagons . In 1903 there was only a light roadster in the range.
There were also electric cars . They were bodied as a runabout in 1901 and 1902 .
In 1903, two models with gasoline engines added to the range. They had two-cylinder engines that developed 9 hp or 12 hp, depending on the version . The bodies were touring cars .
A steam car from 1901 has been preserved. It belongs to the collection of the Science Museum .
