Company history

Charles Dickinson (also spelled Dickenson), LF Douglass (also spelled Douglas) and Henry B. Babson founded the company in late 1898. The seat was in Chicago , Illinois . The production of automobiles with gasoline engines , electric motors and steam engines was announced, but initially not implemented. Until 1902 the company was only active as a workshop. Then automobiles came into being. The brand name was initially Chicago , from 1903 to 1904 Caloric and 1905 Fostler . In August 1904 it merged with the Auto Motor Cycle Company . Vehicle production ended in 1905. Instead, boat engines were created. The company still existed as a workshop for some time.

Brand name Chicago

A two-cylinder engine powered the only model. One illustration shows an open two-seater with a convertible top.

Brand name Caloric

The range comprised three models. Two of them had a two-cylinder engine that delivered either 4.5 hp or 6.5 hp. The chassis had a wheelbase of 168 cm . The vehicles were bodied as a runabout . There was also a coupe with a three-cylinder engine that made 9 hp.

Brand name Fostler

The model was presented at the Chicago Automobile Show in January 1905 . This was a common runabout. A single-cylinder engine was mounted in the front of the vehicle and drove the rear axle via a two-speed planetary gear and a chain. One source sees the possibility that the brand name was chosen by the client.
