Ideal Motor Vehicle Company , previously Friedman Automobile Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
The florist Oscar J. Friedman and his friend Walter W. Robinson bought the Sterling Cycle Works and experimented with motor vehicles . In 1899 a three-wheeler with a gasoline engine was ready. They then founded the Friedman Automobile Company in Chicago , Illinois . They planned the production of automobiles and airships . The latter remained a dream. The partners realized that they were not able to produce a large number of vehicles in their plant alone. In 1902 they commissioned the National Sewing Machine Company to produce 525 vehicles. The brand name was Friedman . The National Sewing Machine Company could not deliver enough vehicles. In April 1903 Friedman sued for $ 100,000 in damages .
Then Friedman and Robinson looked around for their own work. Around that time they changed the company name to Ideal Motor Vehicle Company and the brand name to Ideal . Production ended in 1903.
There were several US manufacturers of Ideal branded passenger vehicles : Ideal Automobile Manufacturing Company , Richmond & Holmes Company , B. & P. Company , Ideal Motor Vehicle Company, Ideal Runabout Manufacturing Company , Bethlehem Automobile Company , Ideal Electric Vehicle Company , Ideal Shop and Bethlehem Motor Truck Company .

The vehicles of 1900 and 1901 were three-wheelers. It was powered by a two-cylinder engine with 3 hp .
The vehicles from 1902 to 1903 had four wheels. They also had a two-cylinder engine, which, however, made 6 hp. One illustration shows an open runabout with space for two people. Was steered with a steering lever.
