Rockaway Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1903 in Rockaway , New Jersey . In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Rockaway , unofficially also Rambler or Rockaway Rambler . Vehicle production ended in 1904. After that there were still attempts to manufacture starters .

There was no connection to Mohler & Degress from New York City , which also offered vehicles as Rockaway between 1902 and 1903 .

Only one model was on offer. It had a single cylinder , four stroke engine that was originally developed for boats . It drove the rear axle via a chain. The open structure offered space for two people. The original price was 650 US dollars in the first year and 700 dollars in the second year.
