Richmond Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles and engines .

Company history

The company was based in Richmond , Indiana . RL Sackett directed it. From 1901 steam engines were produced, apparently designed by Isham Sedgwick. Automobiles followed in 1902. The brand name was Richmond . Vehicle production ended in 1903. Motors came into existence even longer.

There was no connection with Wayne Works , which also sold passenger cars as Richmond .

The only model was a steam car . A steam engine with two cylinders , 63.5 mm bore and 88.9 mm stroke provided the drive. It made 6 hp and weighed only 21 kg. It drove the rear axle via a chain. The structure was a dos-à-dos with four seats. A total of six vehicles were built.
