Pungs-Finch Auto and Gas Engine Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

WA Pungs originally made boats. His son-in-law, EB Finch, studied at the University of Michigan , was an engineer and had made an automobile as early as 1902. Together they founded the company in Detroit , Michigan in 1904 . They took over the Sintz Gas Engine Company and started producing automobiles. The brand name was Pungs-Finch .

In 1908 Finch left the company in a dispute. Pungs went on alone. Production ended in 1910. Several hundred vehicles were built in total.

In 1904 there was the 14 HP . Its two-cylinder engine developed 14 hp . The chassis had a 193 cm wheelbase . The setup was a runabout with two seats. The 20 HP was bigger and more powerful . Its two-cylinder engine developed 20 hp. The wheelbase of 234 cm enabled it to be built as a canopy top tonneau .

In 1905 two models with four-cylinder engines appeared . In the Model D it had 20 hp. The wheelbase was 203 cm. The vehicles were bodied as a tonneau with rear entry. The Model F had a 24 horsepower engine. The wheelbase measured 246 cm. They were tonneaus with side entry.

In 1906 the Model F was redesigned. 22 HP engine power, 249 cm wheelbase and a five-seat touring car structure were now his data. In the Model H , the engine was specified with 28/32 hp. The wheelbase was 269 cm. The body shape was also a five-seater touring car. The top model was the Finch Limited . Two sources consistently give 8652 cm³ displacement. Another source mentions a 146.05 mm bore and 158.75 mm stroke , resulting in a displacement of 10,638 cm³. The engine output was specified as 50/60 hp. The wheelbase measured 282 cm. Touring cars with seven seats and roadsters with two seats were offered. According to one source, only a roadster was made.

The Model 35 appeared in 1907 . The engine made 40 hp, the wheelbase was 269 cm and the structure was a runabout with three seats. The Model F was retained and a two-seater runabout was added. In the Model H , the engine output was increased to 40 hp and the wheelbase was lengthened to 279 cm.

In 1908, Model 35 and Model F remained unchanged. When Model H the wheelbase was shortened cm back to 269th The 50 HP was new . 50 HP engine power, 295 cm wheelbase and a touring car body were his data.

1909 did not change the Model F . For Model 35 and Model H , the engine was now specified as 38/40 hp. The 50 HP was omitted.

In 1910, the wheelbase of the Model F was lengthened to 254 cm. The previous Model 35 became the model H . The engine was now specified with 40 hp again.

A finch limited still exists.
