Crane & Whitman Automobile Works was an American manufacturer of engines and automobiles .

Company history

Henry Middlebrook Crane headed the Bayonne , New Jersey-based company . He made engines. His first automobile was ready in September 1907, and several others followed by 1908. The brand name was Crane & Whitman . In 1910 the company was dissolved.

Henry Crane then founded the Crane Motor Car Company .

The first vehicle had a four-cylinder engine .

This was followed by a car with a six-cylinder engine . The buyer was Harry Payne Whitney. He owned it until his death in 1924.
