Chautauqua Cyclecar Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

HJ Newman, who previously worked for Stoddard-Dayton , founded the company in Jamestown , New York , in 1914 . Automobile production began in June 1914. The brand name was Chautauqua . Plans totaled 1,000 vehicles annually. A large factory in New Castle , Pennsylvania was planned because some suppliers were from Pennsylvania. However, the construction costs for the factory were too high. Production ended at the end of 1914.

vehicles

The only model is called the Cyclecar , although it is unclear whether it meets the criteria. The vehicles were powered by a two-cylinder Spacke engine with 12 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 259 cm and a track width of 142 cm , which was unusually wide for a vehicle of this type. The open runabout offered space for two people. The steering wheel gearshift was a special feature . The original price was 400 US dollars .

Plans for a vehicle with a four-cylinder engine and cardan drive were no longer implemented.
