Monarch Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles from Illinois .

Company history

TA Quinlan Jr. and James A. Ward founded the company in the spring of 1906. The company was based in Chicago , Illinois. Automobile production began in a factory in Franklin Park in 1907. The brand name was Monarch . The designer was JJ Boucher. The first four vehicles were presented at the Chicago Automobile Show in January 1907. On May 2, 1907, a fire destroyed the plant, the machines and 176 finished vehicles. It was not until 1908 that production could be continued at another plant in Chicago Heights , Illinois. Bankruptcy followed in the summer of 1909 . A total of around 25 vehicles were built. Velie acquired the machine park in 1910.

Other US manufacturers of passenger cars of the brand Monarch were Milwaukee Motor Manufacturing Company , Monarch Automobile Company , Monarch Machine Company and Monarch Motor Car Company (Michigan) .

In 1907 there were small models with a two-cylinder engine in the range. They were specified with 12/14 hp . Model A was a two-seater runabout and Model B was also a two-seater Surrey , both with 193 cm wheelbase . Model E was also a two-seat runabout, but with a 224 cm wheelbase.

In 1908 larger models appeared. They had a four-cylinder engine with 40 hp. The chassis had a wheelbase of 284 cm. Model F was called the gentleman's roadster . Model G was a touring car .

In 1909 the wheelbase of the Model F was shortened by one inch to 282 cm. The structure was now a roadster with three seats. In addition, two models complemented the range, both of which had a more powerful 45 hp engine. The Model H was a four-seat Tour About 284 cm wheelbase and the model J as a seven touring cars 315 cm wheelbase.
