Toquet Motor Car and Construction Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles . There is also the spelling Toquet Motor Car Construction Company .

Company history

B. Louis Toquet founded the company around 1904. The headquarters were in New York City and the factory in Saugatuck, which is now part of Westport , Connecticut . The first known mention is from November 23, 1904. It manufactured automobile parts. It had a booth at the Fifth Automobile Show at Madison Square Garden , New York City, which ran from January 14-21, 1905. In that year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Toquet . Vehicle production ended in 1905. In total, only a few vehicles were built. It is not known whether the company existed after 1905.

As part of the Concours d'Caffeine , a meeting for classic cars on May 17, 2015, the company was named in several sources.

Toquet also manufactured marine engines. In addition there was the Toquet Launch Motor Company in July 1902 and later the Toquet Motor Company , which was founded on September 30, 1905. Possibly these were predecessor and successor companies.

Only one model was on offer. It had a special engine developed in-house. It was a four-cylinder engine with T-head . He made 45 hp from 7500 cm³ displacement . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a two-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The only body shape offered was an open touring car with five seats. The curb weight was about 1450 kg.
