Lyons-Atlas Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles , engines, and tractors .

Company history

The brothers George W., James W. and William P. Lyons founded the company in 1912. The seat was in Indianapolis , Indiana . In addition, they bought the Atlas Engine Works from the same city. The designer Harry A. Knox came from the Atlas Motor Car Company . They started producing passenger cars in 1913 . The brand name was Lyons-Knight . In August 1915, Knox withdrew. Thereupon the production of road vehicles ended.

During the First World War , boat engines were created for Great Britain. In 1916 the Hume Manufacturing Company was taken over and tractors were then manufactured.

On June 23, 1918, it merged with the Hill Pump Company to form the Midwest Engine Company .

Car

All vehicles had a valve engine based on the Charles Yale Knight system .

From 1913 to 1914 there were two models in the range. The K-4 model had a four-cylinder engine with 50 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 330 cm . Touring cars with five and seven seats as well as two different limousines were available. The model K-6 had a six-cylinder engine with the same power. The wheelbase was also identical. The only bodies were touring cars with five and seven seats.

In 1915 there was only the four-cylinder model. The engine and wheelbase remained unchanged. Touring cars and limousines with five or seven seats each and a two-seater roadster have come down to us .
