Richmond Iron Works was an American company that also manufactured automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1829 or 1843, depending on the source. The seat was in Richmond , Virginia . It can also be viewed as a merger of several smaller companies. It was active in the casting area .

In 1910 the decision was made to start producing automobiles. The first prototype was created in the same year . MA Finn, MJ Francis, HH McCurdy, R. Massie Nolting, WP Sessaussure, HG Wagner and WH Woody were involved. Marketing began in 1911. The brand name was Virginian . In February 1912, production ended due to bankruptcy .

In 1923 the company was dissolved.

In the production models, the engine developed 50 hp. Each 127 mm bore and stroke resulted in 6435 cm³ displacement . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a three-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The chassis had a wheelbase of 330 cm .
