Company history

Albert J. Farmer founded Drexel Motor Car Corporation in 1916 as the successor to Farmack Motor Car Company . The seat was in Chicago in Detroit . He continued the production of automobiles that were marketed as Drexel . Farmer was a technician, but not a good businessman. Farmer was supposed to resign in the spring of 1917, although he held patents on his engines. In addition, there was the failure of two banks that had invested heavily in the company. Bankruptcy followed in the summer of 1917

Harry B. Staver, who previously the Staver Motor Company initiated, became the liquidator determined. The reorganization resulted in Drexel Motor Corporation . Albert Drexel left the company. Now only prototypes were made . Everything was auctioned in October.

Two models from 1916 had a four-cylinder engine with DOHC valve control and four -valve technology, which was unusual at the time. It made 63 hp . The chassis had a 300 cm wheelbase . The Model 4-60 was as a club - Roadster karosseriert with four seats and possibly the fastest car from Chicago production. The Model 7-60 was a seven-seater touring car .

The prototypes of the new company had a V8 engine that Ferro was called.
