HF Van Wambeke & Sons was an American manufacturer of motor vehicles . Two other sources confirm the existence of the company, but not the company name.

Company history

HF Van Wambeke was a grocer in Elgin , Illinois . In 1907, automobile production began in a shed on the site . His sons helped with this. The brand name was Van Wambeke . Production ended in 1909. A total of about eight vehicles were built.

The vehicles were high wheelers . With their big wheels, they were well suited for the bad roads of the time. They had self-made gasoline engines with air cooling . They were two-cylinder engines that developed between 10 and 20 hp . A four-cylinder engine was also available on special request . The motors drove the rear axle via a planetary gearbox and two chains.

Most of the eight vehicles were vans for local business people. In addition, one or two passenger cars were built . They were bodied as a runabout . The original price was around $ 750 .
