Brown Cyclecar Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was based in Asbury Park , New Jersey . It manufactured a few automobiles in 1914 that were marketed as Brown . Bankruptcy followed in 1914 .

There was no association with the Brown Carriage Company , which used the same brand name.

A model is called a cycle car even though it does not meet the criteria. The two cylinder engine was purchased from Spacke Machine & Tool Company . It had 88.9 mm bore , 92.3 mm stroke , 1157 cm³ displacement and 10 hp . It drove the rear wheels via belts. The chassis had a wheelbase of 244 cm and a track width of 112 cm . The curb weight was given as 272 kg. The open roadster offered space for two people side by side.

There was also the Monmouth . It had a four-cylinder engine with the same dimensions, which resulted in 2314 cm³ displacement and 20 hp. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The vehicle was slightly longer and wider with a wheelbase of 254 cm and a track width of 132 cm. The two-seater body was called raceabout .
