Embree-McLean Carriage Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1889 in St. Louis , Missouri . The owners were James G. Embree and Thomas M. McLean. They made carriages . In September 1909 the production of automobiles was announced and started in November 1909. The brand name was either Embree or Embree-McLean , depending on the source . 500 vehicles were planned annually. Bankruptcy followed in July 1910 . Presumably fewer than 50 vehicles were built.

There were three models on offer. All vehicles had different four-cylinder engines . They also differed in terms of their chassis , as they had different wheelbases .

The smallest model had an engine with 30 hp , a 267 cm wheelbase and a roadster structure .

The medium-sized model had 35 hp, a 295 cm wheelbase and was bodied as a touring car.

The largest model also had the most powerful engine with 40 hp. Its wheelbase of 305 cm enabled a body as a touring car with seven seats.
