Safety Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1917 in Greenloch , New Jersey . It belonged to the Bateman Manufacturing Company , which had been making gardening and farming tools since 1836. The president was CH Blomstrom, who had previously gained experience in automotive engineering with the Blomstrom Manufacturing Company and the Rex Motor Company . In 1917 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Frontmobile . Production ended in 1918.

A total of about five vehicles were built, one of which still exists.

Only one model was on offer. The front-wheel drive was unusual for the time . The deep center of gravity has been emphasized. One source describes the construction as hopelessly complicated . A four-cylinder engine with an output of 26 hp propelled the vehicles. The engine came from the LeRoi Company in the first year and from GB&S in 1918 . The chassis had a wheelbase of 284 cm . There was a choice of roadsters and touring cars .
