Michigan Hearse & Motor Company was an American manufacturer of vehicles .

Company history

The company was based in Grand Rapids , Michigan . It made hearses and ambulances . Some were non-motorized. Motor vehicles were not added until 1913. The brand name was Michigan . In 1916 a few passenger cars with the same brand name were also built. An expansion in passenger cars was announced for 1917, which also included a new factory and the new brand name MHC . However, these plans were not implemented. Production ended in 1921.

There are no known associations with the other Michigan brand passenger car manufacturers : Michigan Automobile Company (1901), Fuller & Sons Manufacturing Company (1903-1907), and Michigan Motor Car Company (1904-1913).

Motor vehicles

The first hearse was built on light commercial vehicle chassis . In 1914, the White Motor Company also added heavier chassis . In 1917, engines with 45 hp came from the Continental Motors Company . The vehicles had six-cylinder engines .

The cars from 1916 were called Model 1220 . They also had a six-cylinder engine. He was specified with 29 hp. The body was a sedan with four doors and six side windows.
