Joseph Lipp , mostly written as Josef Lipp (* 1900 in Weißensee ; † 1982 ibid), was a German old farmer , painter , book illustrator and graphic artist .

Life

Lipp lived and worked all his life on his parents' "Nazehof" in Weißensee, which was incorporated into Füssen in 1978. After the death of his parents, he took over the farm where he lived with his sister. For economic reasons he was unable to attend school. He started woodcuts in his spare time when he was eighteen and learned this art himself. In addition to oil painting, he also used the technique of copperplate engraving. The central motif of his artistic works was the Allgäu landscape.

In the Historical Archive of the Alps Alpine clubs in Germany, Austria and South Tyrol are listed on his person more than 100 works. Works by him were on view at the May 1937 exhibition of the Reichsnährstand (RNST) on Theresienwiese in Munich . In the 1930s, some of his woodcuts were used to illustrate articles in the art and literary magazine Jugend .
