Gadabout Motor Corporation was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1914 in Newark , New Jersey . The production of automobiles began, which were marketed as gadabouts . Walter Greunberg was the designer and Philip Heseltine the marketer. In 1915 the company moved to Detroit , Michigan . Production ended in 1916. Many manufacturers of similarly designed vehicles had to give up as early as 1914.

The Heseltine Motor Corporation is considered the successor.

vehicles

The vehicles were referred to as cycle cars , although they did not meet the criteria. The four-cylinder engine came from Sterling . A 63.5 mm bore and 88.9 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 1126 cc . The engine was water-cooled and made 12 hp . It drove the rear axle via a two-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

Initially, the chassis had a wheelbase of 218 cm and a track width of 117 cm . The only body shape was an open roadster with two seats next to each other. It was made of wicker. This made it lighter than a steel body. It should also increase comfort and make cleaning easier. The vehicles were right-hand drive .

A revised model was presented at the Chicago Automobile Show in January 1916. The wheelbase was lengthened to 264 cm. The body was now made of steel .
