Vulcan Manufacturing Company , previously Vulcan Motor Car Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Alonzo R. Marsh had previous automotive experience with the Marsh Motor Carriage Company , the American Motor Company, and the Eastern Motor Company . In early 1913 he founded the Vulcan Motor Car Company in Painesville , Ohio . The production of automobiles found in a work of Driggs Ordnance & Manufacturing Corporation in Sharon in Pennsylvania instead. The brand name was Vulcan . The name was later changed to Vulcan Manufacturing Company . In July 1914, Marsh left the company and founded the Sterling Motor Car Company .

Shortly thereafter, the production of passenger cars ended . Bankruptcy began in early 1915 . Commercial vehicles were made until October 1916. The Collier Motor Truck Company then moved into the Painesville plant.

Car

Only Model 27 was on offer . It is described as a small car that was positioned well above the cycle car class on the market. He had a four-cylinder engine of Buda . A bore of 85.725 mm and a stroke of 127 mm resulted in a displacement of 2932 cc . This corresponded approximately to the Model T Ford . The engine developed 27 hp . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a three-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

There was a choice of two chassis of different lengths . The shorter one had a wheelbase of 267 cm and was bodied as a two-seater roadster . The longer one with 292 cm wheelbase was designed as an open touring car with five seats.
