Painesville is a city in Lake County in the US state of Ohio and is located on the Grand River . According to the statistics of the year 2000, the city had 17,503 inhabitants. It is the principal town and county seat of Lake County.
history
Painesville was incorporated in 1832 and was named after General Edward Paine (1746–1841), one of the first settlers to settle in the Connecticut Western Reserve area around 1800 . Paine served as a captain in the Connecticut Militia during the American Revolutionary War and also represented the region on the Territorial Legislative Assembly.
When the land was surveyed in 1805, the first name of the parish was initially set after General Henry Champion as champion. The place received city rights in 1902.
education
The local school board has started demolishing Hobart Middle School so that a high school can be built on the site . Heritage Middle School will be built on Chestnut Street.
In the village is the 1899 founded and responsible for the county district, Morley Library public library . The private Lake Erie College , founded in 1856, was one of the last three women-only colleges in Ohio until 1986, at which about 1,000 people are now studying. It is known for its training in horse management and equestrianism. The college was the second college in the United States to be accredited by the British Horse Society , and it also provides training in therapeutic riding . Students who do not live in the greater area of the university in the city center are obliged to live on campus for their academic year up to the age of 22. There is also a campus of the Andrews Osborne Academy on site .
