The Grand River is a 158 km long tributary of Lake Erie on its south bank in the northwestern US state of Ohio .

Together with its tributaries, the Grand River drains a total of 1844 km², which lie in the catchment area of Lake Erie. The river rises 3 miles south of the village of Middlefield in southeastern Geauga County , first flows southeast into Trumbull County and turns north at West Farmington into Ashtabula County . At Austinburg, the Grand River bends west into Lake County and flows into Lake Erie at Fairport Harbor .

On July 28, 2006, the Grand River and its tributaries flooded their banks, causing significant flood damage in Lake and Ashtabula Counties. The river reached a peak height of 3.35 m above normal. The city of Painesville fell more than 275mm of rain on July 27-28 , 2006, and Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties were declared a disaster area. More than 600 people had to be evacuated.
