Geauga County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Chardon .

The county is located almost in the extreme northeast of Ohio, is about 15 km to the north from Lake Erie , the southernmost of the five Great Lakes , and has an area of 1,057 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Lake County , Ashtabula County , Trumbull County , Portage County , Cuyahoga County, and Summit County .

Geauga County was formed on December 31, 1805 from parts of Trumbull County. It was named after the Indian name for the Grand River , which is 'Sheauga sepe', which translates as "raccoon river".

Geauga County had a population of 90,895 people as of the 2000 census . Of these, 1,047 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 31,630 households and 24,987 families. The population density was 87 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.42 percent white, 1.22 percent African American, 0.08 percent Native American, 0.42 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.14 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.59 percent of the population.
Of the 31,630 households, 37.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 68.9 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers, 21.0 percent were non-families, 17.6 percent were single households and 6.9 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.24.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 94.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 60,200 USD , and the median income for a family was 67,427 USD. Males had a median income of $ 48,443 versus $ 30,567 for females. The per capita income was $ 27,944. 2.8 percent of families and 4.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 6.1 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 5.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
