Logan County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Bellefontaine .
geography
The county is located in west-central Ohio and has an area of 1209 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hardin County , Union County , Champaign County , Shelby County, and Auglaize County .
history
Logan County was formed on December 30, 1817 from parts of Champaign County. It was named after Benjamin Logan , a brigadier general in the Virginia Militia in the American Revolutionary War and a member of the Kentucky General Assembly .

According to the 2000 census , Logan County had 46,005 people. 585 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 17,956 households and 12,730 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.15 percent white , 1.71 percent African American , 0.20 percent American Indian , 0.40 percent Asian American , 0.03 percent Pacific islander and 0.27 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.24 percent were descended from two or more races . 0.72 percent of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
Of the 17,956 households, 33.3 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.0 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers, 29.1 percent were non-families, 24.8 percent were single households and 10.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.01.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.7 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 93.6 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 41,479 , and the median income for a family is $ 47,516. Males had a median income of $ 37,134 versus $ 24,739 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,984. 7.1 percent of families and 9.3 percent of the population were below the poverty line. 11.8 percent of these were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 8.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
