Licking County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Newark .

The county is almost centrally located in Ohio and has an area of ​​1783 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Knox County , Coshocton County , Muskingum County , Perry County , Fairfield County , Franklin County, and Delaware County .

history

Licking County was formed on January 30, 1808 from parts of Fairfield County. It was named after the salt licks that were found in the area.

The county has a National Historic Landmark , the Newark Earthworks . 59 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 10, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Licking County had 145,491 people in 55,609 households and 40,149 families. The population density was 82 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.64 percent white, 2.06 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.58 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.30 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.10 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the county is $ 44,124 , and the median income for a family is $ 51,969. Males had a median income of $ 37,957 versus $ 26,884 for females.
