Brown County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Georgetown .

The county is located south-southwest in Ohio, bordering Kentucky and has an area of 1,283 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Clinton County , Highland County , Adams County , Mason County, Kentucky, Bracken County, Kentucky, and Clermont County .
history
Brown County was formed on December 17, 1817 from parts of Adams County and Clermont County. The foundation became effective on March 1, 1818. It was named after Jacob Brown , a major general in the British-American War , who was wounded in the battle of Lundy's Lane .
Three places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Grant Boyhood Home , the John P. Parker House, and the John Rankin House . 27 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 6, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Brown County had 42,285 people in 15,555 households and 11,790 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.08 percent white, 0.92 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian and 0.08 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.60 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.44 percent of the population.
Of the 15,555 households, 37.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 61.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, 24.2 percent were non-families, 20.2 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.09.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 11.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 94.8 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,303 , and the median income for a family is $ 43,040. Males had a median income of $ 32,647 versus $ 22,483 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,100. 8.8 percent of families and 11.6 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 15.2 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 9.4 percent were people over 65 years of age.
